A series you cannot binge at all even wishing it with all your might
My 104th step was Chief of Staff, there, in Netflix. The main character, Jang Tae Joon, is played by Lee Jung Jae and I discovered to Shin Min Ah as a congresswoman who thinks she is there by her capacity and not by the fact that her father is a bank owner and so she is a chaebol who is occupying a expensively bought by his father chair in the Korean National Assembly. Lee Jung Jae is widely known nowadays because Squid game, my 92nd step, series I saw because it was recommended by my students. He looks sick all the time for me. It is not the beautiful flower boy of other K-doramas and he plays his character outstandingly. In a comment to this series I read "At last, a series for adults". Clearly, this commentator is not in the trend of Korean pop culture. They are looking for teenagers and young adults for their market and even if there are series addressed to more mature audiences, a big chunk of the market is fulfilled by series for these young viewers. Chief of Staff is a crude series where you can see all the human misery that reminisces XIX Century literature, Russian or French. You need to chew it slowly to not get choked. Sometimes you think, money and power, are the perfect combination to make a person successful for herself but miserable to all the others. What if such a person arrives into a position where all the reality could be deflected? Chief of Staff has many answers to this question. I cannot compare it to any other Korean series, it has its special little box to be enclosed. I doubted if watch the second season immediately. I wanted to take a break but a cat was killed by curiosity and clearly I am a cat and the series is well built. There is a very small amount of love and it is needed to remember that my main point of attraction to Hallyu is love and the way it is presented by South Korean screenwriters. So for me this series was a big suffering and I could not watch more than one or two chapters at the most at anytime. My plan to send it to a three chapter position as explained in my previous blog entrance was aborted and I left it in the 2 chapters position up to the end after trying just once to see 3 chapters in a row with no success and a lot of personal pain. At the very end of the tenth chapter in the second season, Tae Joon is hired by the very same President of Dae Han Min Gug, is it the announcement of the third season? Am I going to watch it? It depends on several factors, being alive the first one.
